Welcome to our class!
My name is Corey Wallace. I was born and raised in Redding, California. In my youth, I was an avid snowboarder. After high school, I attended UC Davis and earned my BA in History. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a seasonal firefighter for the US Forest Service and as a warehouse manager for an eCommerce website.
I have been a teacher since 2009. My career started teaching English in Seoul, South Korea. After returning to California, I taught in the City of Oakland for 8 years, including four years teaching 3rd grade. In the summer of 2021, my family and I moved to San Diego. I began teaching at EBS the 2022 school year, and plan to be here for a LONG TIME!
As a teacher, my philosophy is to help grow the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally. I foster a growth mindset in my students, helping them to judge themselves against who they were yesterday, last month, or last year. I push all students to grow, regardless if they are advanced, on grade level, approaching, or far below benchmark goals. Conferring, small group teaching, and project-based learning are high leverage areas of teaching in my experience.
In my free time, I love to be active and enjoy the outdoors. I love the beach, and aspire to continue to improve as a surfer. Hiking, trail running, and camping are other outdoor activities I love. I have a young daughter and love spending time with her in the pool, reading books, or at Costco.
Sincerely,
Corey Wallace
